Space Engine Systems is not a medical device company historically, but has designed a ventilator in response to the COVID-19 crisis and the unmet need for mechanical ventilators in many areas. The DASS G-1 ventilator makes use of commercially available components from automotive, aerospace, and process control industries so as to avoid tapping into the already stressed medical component supply chain.

The design is intended to provide a high standard of care and balances sophistication and simplicity. A microprocessor and software-based approach has been used to provide the necessary pressure control sophistication to maximize success and recovery, while the ventilation modes that have been developed are kept to those which have been identified as useful specifically for COVID-19 treatment.
